JAPAN's leading express delivery provider, Yamato Transport, has started a joint venture with Shanghai Bus Logistics in Shanghai that marks the introduction of Yamato's Kuroneko Takkyubin service into Shanghai of a time-scheduled door-to-door delivery commonly used in Japan, Xinhua reported.
The joint venture, Yamato Transport (China), entailing an investment of CNY600 million (US$87.9 million), will initially offer door-to-door time-scheduled same-day delivery and delivery for refrigerated goods. Customers can also enjoy payment collection and online cargo tracking service offered by the company.
Scheduled to start operation before Shanghai Expo, the company plans to set up a parcel sorting centre to handle one million batches a day in three years, and a network with 25 distributing locations and 280 cargo pickup points. It will be equipped with a fleet with 2,600 refrigerated trucks and employ 3,800 staff.
The new company is expected to have a capacity of 80 million batches of cargo per year and is aiming to expand its network to cover other Yangtze River Delta cities.
