DB SCHENKER has renewed and extended for two years its logistics contract with the UK's Goodrich Power Systems, a division of one of the world's leading aircraft electronics systems providers - Goodrich Corporation.

Since first winning the Goodrich logistics business in 2006, the two companies have "enjoyed a successful working relationship where DB Schenker has delivered not only improved service but also provided the customer with substantial cost savings", said a Schenker statement.

Said Goodrich commodity chief Bill Deaton: "We look forward to working with Schenker to realise further cost savings and develop and broaden the scope of work."

At first, DB Schenker looked after Goodrich Power Systems' air freight requirements - both import and export - primarily to and from Canada and the US.

"This then moved on to encompass the dispatch process on site. Additional business was won by liaising closely and working on a package which reduced overall shipping costs by some 20 per cent through identifying key trade lanes and the volumes which move on them," said the statement.

A new innovation was the introduction a bespoke small parcels service for the significant proportion of the business which was under 25 kilogrammes. This enables the company to save up to a third on the previous shipment costs of all such items.

Schenker Limited, is part of the Berlin-based DB Schenker network engaged in air and ocean forwarding, employs 850 staff in 18 locations. The company provides.
