Company introduces perishables packaging system

Apr 9, 2008 Logistics

A Minneapolis-based company said it has introduced a new packaging system that can keep products at a consistent temperature for more than five days.

Entropy Solutions said its Greenbox Thermal Management System is designed for the pharmaceutical, biologics and blood industries and can help company reduce shipping and distribution costs.

Because Greenbox maintains temperature for more than five days, customers can ship via ground versus overnight express, even on Fridays, resulting in significant cost savings, the company said in press release announcing the product.

The company said customers include Wal-Mart Specialty Pharmacy, Medtronic and Memorial Blood Centers.

The company said the Greenbox system is constructed of a durable plastic outer shell; Thermal-Lok insulation panels, which protect temperature-sensitive goods from external weather conditions; and E-Packs, which contain a combination of patented phase change materials. In a typical system, it said two sets of two different phase change materials simultaneously absorb and release heat -- while one E-Pack liquefies, the other solidifies providing a thermostat effect. The company said the packaging is reusable.
