Jan 21, 2010 Logistics

THE Shanghai Railway Administration, Ningbo Port Group and China Railway Container Transport Co Ltd have inaugurated a new sea-rail intermodal service, the "Coastal Express", between two eastern China cities of Ningbo and Wenzhou, Logistics Week reported.

The new service will run on the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Express Railway at 100 kilometres per hour, according to an unnamed senior official from the Shanghai Railway Administration.

The intermodal service takes Ningbo Beilun Port Area Station and Wenzhou West Station as its cargo loading and discharging spot, offering one run in each direction every night, able to carry up to 88 containers. Wenzhou West Station is the customs authorised clearance spot and empty container pick-up location designated by ocean carriers.

The operators promised that the service will run on time even when it has not collected enough cargo or even no cargo. The shortest time for each trip will be three hours and 57 minutes.
