Lithuanian road transport companies suffered total losses amounting to at least LTL 6.5mn (EUR 1.88mn) due to the blockade on the Latvian-Russian border in December 2009. Gytis Vincevicius, spokesman for the Lithuanian Road Carriers Association (Linava), said the carriers had to write off the losses as costs. Lines of up to 1,600 trucks built up on the Latvian-Russian border in December 2009 after Russia stepped up checks on Latvian trucks, according to Logistics Finland.
