Goodrich Power Systems extends and renews its contract with DB Schenker

Jan 12, 2010 Logistics

Goodrich Power Systems, a division of one of the world's leading aircraft electronics systems providers – Goodrich Corporation – has renewed and extended its contract with Schenker Limited in the UK.  Since first winning the logistics business in April 2006, DB Schenker and Goodrich have enjoyed a highly successful working relationship where DB Schenker has delivered not only improved service but also provided the customer with substantial cost savings throughout the business.

Initially, DB Schenker purely looked after Goodrich Power Systems' airfreight requirements – both import and export -  primarily to and from Canada and the USA .  This then moved on to encompass the despatch process on site.  Additional business was won by liaising closely and working on a package which reduced overall shipping costs by some 20% through identifying key trade lanes and the volumes which move on them.

A new innovation to the account was the introduction a bespoke small parcels service for the significant proportion of the business which was under 25kgs.  This enables the company to save up to a third on the previous shipment costs of all such items.
An improved month end process has been expanded to include some ocean and land solutions and additional implants have been employed at the Goodrich facility in Buckinghamshire.  They are fully responsible for the running of the Dispatch and Goods In processes and a cross-trained in order to provide greater on-site productivity combined with a full understanding of the customer's business requirements.

Says Schenker Limited's Sales Director, David Harrison: "Goodrich has a complex range of requirements combined with a need for specialist services.  We have shown our flexibility and the spread of our multi-modal service capabilities and come up with solutions which not only work for them but save money too".

Adds Goodrich Power Systems Senior Commodity Manager, Bill Deaton: "Schenker has worked with us to overcome process issues and to meet our bespoke requirements by providing a value-add in-house team covering functions across goods in and despatch.  Following a successful implementation and having overcome the intial challenges we look forward to working with Schenker in order to realise further cost savings and to develop and broaden the scope of work.
The new extended and expanded contract will run until for two years.
