SAJ Chairman: Patience required for tough 2010

Jan 8, 2010 Logistics

The Chairman of the Shipbuilders’ Association of Japan (SAJ) rallied his members' spirits at the end of 2009, urging the industry to try harder and to exercise patience.

“Starting in 2010, we may have to begin exerting more effort in order to pile up orders bit by bit,” Takao Motoyama advised. “We project that it will be a tough year that will require a lot of patience.”

He added that the industry had to brace itself for the continued slump in demand.

Summing up 2009, Mr Motoyama said: “Negotiations virtually ceased, with order receipts down to rarely seen low levels. On the contrary, the construction volume could very well be the highest level to date even on a global scale.”
