OMAN Air Cargo has managed to boost revenue last year by 67 per cent compared to 2008 owing to the addition of new A330 aircraft and the introduction of new destinations.

Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman also moved 2,325,805 passengers in 2009, a year-on-year increase of 17 per cent, reports Global Arab Network.

It said over the course of 2009 the carrier added eight aircraft, bringing its total fleet size to 21, added five destinations and increased flights on key routes, raising its total to 32.

This comes on the back of the government raising the state-owned airline's capital from OMR50 million (US$129.85 million) to OMR300 million ($779.13 million), a move announced in April 2009.

Oman Air ended 2009 signing an order with Embraer for the purchase of five Embraer 175 aircraft from the E-Jets family, with options for five more. The first delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011, the report said.

"Looking ahead, 2010 is going to be another significant year for Oman Air with more destinations planned and two more A330s joining its expanding fleet this year. Coming up ahead on the destinations front are Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur and some points in East Africa," it added.
