A bulk carrier is reportedly adrift in the seas of the North Pacific, according to the Jakarta Post.
The ship ran into engine trouble en route from China to the Columbia River in Oregon but the crew radioed for help late on the morning of December 20, only when the weather turned bad. The vessel's owner, Apeejay Shipping, may decide to send a tug to retrieve the drifting vessel.
The report said the ‘APJ Suryavir’ and its 28 crew had planned to abandon ship and planned to board a Samaritan vessel scheduled to arrive on December 21.
The vessel was not carrying any cargo and Alaska's Coast Guard Lt Nate Johnson said that even though the vessel had some sea water in its tanks, it was still considered light.
