Lufthansa suspends Munich-Seoul-Shenyang service

Dec 25, 2009 Logistics

THE north eastern city of Shenyang has suffered a number of flight suspensions recent due to slack season with the latest being Lufthansa's termination of the Munich-Seoul-Shenyang run, Logistics Week reports

Before Lufthansa's suspension, Asiana and Dragonair also suspended their services to the city.

Industry professionals said the serial suspensions were led by low utilisation rates and high operating costs. The global air industry was hard hit by the fuel price hike in 2008 then faced the most severe shrink in demand in history in the following year.

Carriers are unwilling to give up Shenyang market because regaining it will be difficult, said AMS Global Cargo Shenyang manager Li Dejun. Lufthansa is in talks with the company on cooperation on air-land intermodal service.
