According to Ukrainian media, the local rolling-stock manufacturers are losing foreign customers. Between January and October 2009, export of Ukrainian freight wagons recorded a y-o-y drop by more than 63% to 8,449 units, according to Railway Market - CEE Review.
In general, production of cars went down twofold. The biggest drop was recorded in export to Russia (4,604 in 2009 compared to 20,000 wagons exported in 2008) and Kazakhstan and Belarus, where only a half of last year’s number of vehicles was delivered.
On the other hand, more Ukrainian cars were exported to the Baltic States. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia ordered 773 cars this year, so 132 more than in 2008. Most of the vehicles (712) went to Latvia, Estonia got 53 cars and Lithuania 8.
