ISRAEL's Cargo Airlines Ltd (CAL) has been given the go-ahead by Israeli antitrust authorities to buy cargo space on passenger flights operated by Arkia Israeli Airlines to western Europe and Asia for the next two years
The deal comes after Israel's Antitrust Authority director Ronit Kan recently exempted from a restraint of trade ruling the air cargo agreement between Arkia and CAL, under which CAL intended to purchase cargo space on Arkia's passenger flights.
Antitrust authorities was reported to have reviewed the agreement because it was concerned that it may restrict trade, reduce competition, and/or harm users of air cargo services.
But the review was said to have found no grounds for harm to competition because, in addition to CAL and Arkia, there are numerous airlines carrying bellyhold cargo to destinations worldwide, as well as designated cargo flights.
