Siemens to offer the cheapest version of Velaro

Nov 24, 2009 Logistics

There is a very interesting information for passengers travelling by railways in Poland. In a tender for train-sets for PKP Intercity, Siemens will offer a variant of Velaro, which is named Velaro PL, Railway Market - CEE Review informs.

Until now, Velaro trains were delivered to China (60 vehicles), Spain (16) and Russia (8). Due to the similarity of voltage systems, trains for Poland would be technically like the Russian ones. Velaro PL would be the cheapest version of this train ever offered by Siemens.

If the tender’s winner is announced by the end of 2009, Siemens will be able to deliver 12 complete train-sets by April 2012. However, according to estimates, the tender procedures will probably have to be prolonged until March 2010. – In this case, we will manage to meet the deadline, but the number of vehicles, which we will be able to deliver, will have to be reduced – said Jarosław Piotrowski, the director at Siemens sp. z o.o. Industry Sector - Mobility.
