Nov 23, 2009 Logistics

Vienna International Airport (VIA) saw earnings shrink in the first three quarters of this year, it was announced yesterday.

Turnover fell 10.4 per cent to 374.4 million Euros year on year, VIA bosses said, adding that operative earnings before interest and taxes shrunk 26.6 per cent to 82.8 million Euros.

VIA officials said their forecast for 2009 had not changed. Earlier this month, they said they expected a decline of nine per cent in passenger numbers and losses of around 18 million Euros.

VIA chiefs also said today passenger numbers for the first nine months of 2009 dropped by 10.3 per cent year on year to 13.7 million.

Meanwhile an audit into construction of a new terminal is continuing after costs for building the "Skylink" terminal – originally estimated to be 400 million Euros – more than doubled, Austrian Times reported.
