Nov 19, 2009 Logistics

ALOHA Air Cargo has teamed up with the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation to help sustain Hawaii agriculture by offering lower freight costs.

"If farmers no make money, the farmer not going farm," Hawaii Farm Bureau president Dean Okimoto was quoted as saying in a report by ABC TV News.

"We felt it (local farming) wasn't being supported by a transportation area as much as it needed to be," said Aloha Air Cargo CEO Mike Malik.

Aloha Air Cargo is said to be offering a discount of up to 35 per cent off airfreight for farm bureau members when shipping produce grown in Hawaii.

In addition, Aloha Air Cargo is extending a 20 per cent discount off general freight shipments and non-perishable products, the report said.

The programme's discounted rates will be available until the end of 2010.
