GySEV, a regional railway company jointly owned by Hungary and Austria, wants to take over passenger service on more than 600 km of railway lines in west Hungary. Also 1,200 employees of MAV would be taken over.
Currently, the Hungarian state-owned railway company is waiting for the transport ministry to express its opinion on the case, the local media report.
According to Budapest Business Journal, GySEV operates 300 km of rail lines. Apart from the 600 km of lines in western Hungary, it also plans to take over operation of almost 200 km of rail lines from Austrian OBB.
