Army names transportation officers

The Army Chief of Staff announced general officer assignments, including the transition for one current and one former Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) officer to new transportation corps assignments.

The command will welcome back Brig. Gen. James L. Hodge, as Commanding General, SDDC, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Hodge, the command's former Deputy Commanding General, currently serves as Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Field Support Command, with duty as Commanding General, Army Materiel Command Forward-Southwest Asia/G-4, U.S. Army Central, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Col. Brian R. Layer, SDDC's current Deputy Commander/Director of Operations, Fort Eustis, Va., will transition to a new assignment as Commander/Commandant, United States Army Transportation Center and School, Fort Eustis, Va.

Maj. Gen. Kathleen M. Gainey, Commanding General of SDDC, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 13 for promotion to the rank of lieutenant general, and will be assigned as Director for Logistics, J-4, the Joint Staff in Washington.
