British Airways now officially offers more seats to the Caribbean from the UK than any other carrier. The airline cemented the number one spot with the launch of the new winter schedule this week introducing new services from Gatwick to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Montego Bay in Jamaica.
With increased frequency to St Kitts, Grenada, Barbados and Bermuda for summer 2010 British Airways will have an extra 2,000 extra seats a week to the Caribbean from Gatwick.
In total BA will operate 55 flights a week from London to the Caribbean, with 11 destinations served from Gatwick and three from Heathrow.
In addition new services start this week from Gatwick to Male in The Maldives and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and flights to Innsbruck in Austria will start on December 5. All the long haul flights are operated with Boeing 777 aircraft. and the Innsbruck service with an Airbus A319.
Alan Peever, British Airways general manager Gatwick, said: “This is a very significant time for British Airways at Gatwick as we launch these exciting new routes, which should prove very popular with our customers.”
Mike Luddy, London Gatwick Airport's commercial director, said: “Gatwick Airport Limited is delighted that British Airways will bring these prestigious routes to our airport and further extend the fantastic range of destinations BA has on offer from Gatwick. BA is a hugely important customer for us and we hope that the addition of the new routes will further strengthen their network and performance from the airport.”
