STX Europe awarded eco-friendly PSV contract

Oct 10, 2009 Logistics

STX Europe, formerly Aker Yards, has been awarded a contract with Deep Sea Supply for the design and construction of a platform supply vessel.

The new PSV 09 CD design is optimized for eco-drive in all weather conditions and designed by STX Europe in Ålesund, Norway.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2012 and, as it is for delivery to Deep Sea Supply Navegação Maritima in Brazil, it will be built at STX Europe’s Brazilian yard.

Roy Reite, President of STX Europe's Offshore & Specialized Vessels business area, said: “STX Europe has been through an extensive research and design programme over the last two years. We presented the new ship design to the market this spring, and have received very good response from our customers.”

The vessel will feature accommodation for 26 people as well as tailor-made features in terms of range, speed, capacity and cargo flexibility to attend the challenging requirements of exploration and production support operations in the newly discovered Brazilian "pre-salt" oil fields.

STX Europe's business area Offshore & Specialized Vessels has now 43 vessels in the orderbook, of which 79 percent are STX Norway Offshore designs.
