A new Cargo Checkpoint is being tested at Schiphol airport that aims to minimise potential disruptions to the logistics chain.
The Cargo Checkpoint is a partnership between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AAS), the Netherlands Customs Authorities and Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo, who have joined forces to develop Schiphol as Europe's cargo mainport.
The Cargo Checkpoint is unique in that government inspections are conducted within the handlers' logistics process.
To date, different methods of inspection were applied at different locations by different organisations. The Cargo Checkpoint pilot project ensures that all of these inspection methods and moments are incorporated into the logistics chain.
Existing and new methods are combined to create a single drive-through moment. This concentration of inspections and inspecting bodies, governmental and non-governmental, is unique in the world.
Establishing the Cargo Checkpoint represents the first concrete step towards achieving seamless cargo flows, and is expected to contribute to further strengthening Schiphol's competitive position, eyefortransport reports.
