Sep 28, 2009 Logistics

The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest, has added its first around-the-world freight carrier - Singapore Airlines Cargo.

According to the Shipping Gazette, the weekly all-cargo service operates with a 747-400 freighter from Singapore to North America and on to Europe and the Middle East before returning to Singapore.

"Singapore Airlines' decision to begin air cargo service to Atlanta furthers our position as one of the world's premier logistics hubs and centre for supply chain management," said Bob Pertierra, vice president of supply chain development for the Metro Atlanta Chamber.

"This new trade lane will enable companies in Atlanta and southeastern US to gain access to even more customers and markets across Asia," he said.
Hartsfield-Jackson is connected to more than 240 cities in 55 countries with more than 1,300 daily flights.
