Interporto Bologna and the Lithuanian Railways have signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim to activate a strong collaborative action that, in the medium term, will lead to a joint marketing strategy and the development of new railway connections between the main Lithuanian nodes and the Italian freight village.
Interporto Bologna has been for years present in the international context with a strong role in promoting intermodal traffic by taking advantage of the central position that the freight village occupies within the European geography and its rail infrastructure, capable of handling significant volumes of freight.
Satisfaction was expressed by the President of the Interporto Bologna, Alessandro Ricci, who, in greeting the Deputy Minister of Transport of Lithuania, present at the time of the signature, Rimvydas Vaštakas reaffirmed "as such agreement represents an opportunity to extend our cooperation in a context more and more globalized that requires an openness and widening vision of the market.
With a Strategic Plan for Transport up to 2025 that enhances prominently intermodal transport and with good growth prospects which will be accompanied by an increase in freight traffic in import and export, Lithuania is the ideal partner for the Interporto Bologna that looks also to the Baltic and Eastern European countries.
Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda are the three freight villages being considered by the Lithuanian authorities to which the Bologna freight villages will provide its support in terms of knowledge and experience by accepting the challenge of dealing with different social and political dynamics, but very active to cover the small height difference with the countries of the "old" Europe.
When signing the memorandum of understanding were also present, the Assessorfor Transport of the Emilia Romagna Regione, Alfredo Peri, the Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce of Bologna, Giada Grandi and the Undersecretary of State in the Italian Ministry of Transport, Bartolomeo Giachino who, in his speech, in addition to congratulate the Interporto Bologna for the initiative, has clearly reaffirmed the strategic role of transport as an engine for economic development and the need for our country to strengthen even further the financial measures in support of all infrastructure dedicated to transport.
To frame the signing of the agreement, the splendid Palace of Mercanzia, historical site of the Chamber of Commerce of Bologna, which, hopefully, have witnessed the beginning of a fruitful and lasting collaboration.
