New Russian naval base in the Black Sea region

Phase one of a new Russian naval base is still under way with construction expected to be completed in 2020.

So far, builders have completed several berths and dwelling settlements along the coast line of the Black Sea. The budget for the first phase of building is US$440 million.

The naval base will be capable of hosting any kind of naval ship. The building programme is part of the Russian Government’s “Creating a system of Black Sea naval bases in the Russian Federation, 2005-2020” federal target programme.
