Greek flag carrier Olympic Airlines will suspend air service to Russia in October, according to the Russian Transport Daily Report.
Marfin Investement Group (MIG), based in Nea Erythrea outside Athens, acquired Olympic Airlines from the Greek government in March for EUR177.2 million (US$253.4 million) and will close its offices and end service to Moscow and charters to St Petersburg in October.
The company attributed reductions to requirements of the European Commission, which approved the purchase of Olympic Airlines if the new owners preserved 65 per cent of the old routes. The airline has already scrapped service to New York, Montreal, Barcelona and Johannesburg.
