Capacity of Swedish railways must be raised to ensure it can meet the raised demand expected when the new regulations of sulphur levels in marine fuel are in place, the Swedish Shippers' Council (Näringslivets Transportråd) has argued.
In a comment to the report by the Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) on the regulations issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Council claimed that capacity must be in place to handle the shipped goods that are likely to be transported by railway following the new regulations. The Council urged for measures to be taken to limit the regulation's impact on Swedish export industry, and called for the Ministry of Enterprise (Näringsdepartementet) to the coordinate such measures as the regulation would impact on a range of different political areas, Logistics Finland informs.
