Lufthansa Cargo flies twice weekly from Frankfurt to Seattle

Lufthansa Cargo Airlines has commenced a new freighter service from Frankfurt to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), the Shipping Gazette reported.
The service deploys a Lufthansa MD-11 freighter than lands at Sea-Tac Airport twice a week from Frankfurt, with a connection continuing to Los Angeles.

Specifically, one flies from Frankfurt to Seattle and then on to Los Angeles. A second stops over in Toronto before flying to Seattle then continuing to Los Angeles. Both flights return to Frankfurt from LAX.

"Adding Lufthansa Cargo at Sea-Tac expands trade opportunities to Europe for regional industries and consumers," said Seattle port commission president Bill Bryant.

The connection becomes the third freighter service from Sea-Tac to Europe and the airport's first freighter link to Frankfurt.

The service follows the launch of Lufthansa's passenger service to Sea-Tac in March of 2008. Lufthansa Cargo also provides bellyhold capacity on passenger flights, but freighter adds "main-deck" accommodation for cargo allowing for larger items and greater volume per flight.

Lufthansa Cargo's MD-11 freighter is capable of transporting more than 90 tons of cargo at its full range capability.
"Adding Sea-Tac to our freighter network will strengthen the position of Lufthansa Cargo in the (US) West Coast market," said Lufthansa Cargo Americas vice president Klaus Holler.
