Nine trans-European rail freight corridors were identified in a meeting of EU ministers in July 2009, including the 'Mediterranean Corridor', from Almeria to Perpignan via Valencia and Barcelona and another route from Lisbon and Algeciras to Madrid and Irun, Logistics Finland reported. Commentators have noted that work on the Almeria to Murcia high speed line has only just started, despite the fact that it was authorised soon after 2000, which may indicate that government support for the freight network is muted.
