Kaliningrad first half container volume plunges 67.9pc

RUSSIA's Baltic enclave port of Kaliningrad suffered a 67.9 per cent year on year fall in container volume in the first half and a 34 per cent drop in overall cargo throughput.

Despite a drop of oil product exports of 26.8 per cent, outbound crude increased 37.7 per cent year on year, according to the Russian Transport Daily Report.

Ferrous metal exports declined by 51.8 per cent; scrap iron was down 27.8 per cent, mineral fertilisers fell 47.1 per cent while packaged goods and timber declined 67.2 per cent and 69.8 per cent respectively.

Imports dropped 16.8 per cent with packaged goods down 49.7 per cent, reefer cargo off 40.2 per cent, cargo by ferries down 40.5 per cent while grain suffered a 76.8 per cent fall. But transit enjoined a more than three-fold increase while cabotage more than doubled in the first half.
