Guangdong to build more than 500 kilometres of highways

More than 500 kilometres will be built by Guangdong province starting later in the second half of the year, Xinhua reported.

There are 11 projects including inter-provincial expressways from Guangzhou to the Inner Mongolian cities of Erenhot, Lechang and Daqing, and from Meizhou to Dapu.

The Guangzhou-Erenhot and Guangzhou-Lechang expressway running through Hunan province will ease the heavy traffic on Beijing-Zhuhai expressway. Meizhou-Dapu expressway runs through Fujian province. Guangzhou-Daqing expressway runs through Jiangxi province.

Guangdong has invested CNY24.7 billion (US$3.6 billion) on highway infrastructure in the first half, up 35.7 per cent year on year. Some CNY22.6 billion was invested on road building, surging 52.8 per cent and CNY18.9 was invested on expressway projects, up 44.6 per cent.
