PKP cuts train routes

Aug 6, 2009 Logistics

Soon it might be more difficult to travel by train in Poland. Polish railways PKP looks for savings and plans to cut several dozen routes between the biggest cities in the country.
More than 10% of PKP Intercity's routes might be canceled. In September suspended will be links Wrocław-Lublin, Gliwice-Kielce, Jelenia Góra-Szklarska Poręba, Częstochowa-Szczecin and Toruń-Poznań. Some train routes will also be shortened.

PKP Intercity is looking for savings mostly due to the fact, that it wants to enter stock exchange in 2010. By this time the company has to cover the losses, which amounted several million zlotys last year, Railway Market - CEE Review reports.
