GOLD STAR Line, a Zim unit, has included a weekly service linking Singapore and Port Kelang to Chennai and to Laem Chabang, thus joining the Thailand Straits Chennai Service (TSC) centring on Singapore. The Sea Consortium, OOCL and Shanghai Puhai Shipping, an affiliate of China Shipping Container Line, operate this.

In another regional development, Mariana Express Lines (MELL) is to launch a weekly service this month connecting Hong Kong to east Malaysia and the Philippines (Cagayan de Oro and Cebu) (EMX), reported Paris-based Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter.

This new service will serve Hong Kong, Kuching, Tanjong Manis, Bintulu, Muara, Kota Kinabalu, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu and Hong Kong. It will turn in two weeks, using two ships, the 1,118-TEU Mell Saraca and the 1,043-TEU Mell Saujana, also know as the Appen Anita, with its first sailing expected from Hong Kong on August 19.
