The Journal of Commerce Conferences announced that Fred Green, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Pacific Railway, and Sokat Haikhs, President of Mediterranean Shipping Co.'s Canada division, will deliver keynote addresses at the 4th Annual Canada Maritime Conference. The event will take place September 23rd - 24th, 2009, at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Mr. Green and Mr. Haikhs will deliver industry outlooks with their perspectives on the future of the transportation industry's economic health. Their presentations will kick off two days of roundtable discussions covering issues that reflect the conference theme, "Logistics Strategies in a Crisis Economy."
"Fred Green and Sokat Haikhs each have unique perspectives on the Canadian transportation industry," said Liam Power, Vice President Magazines, UBM Global Trade. "We are thrilled that they are able to join our 2009 Canada Maritime Conference. Their keynote speeches will certainly provide valuable insight to those attending the event."
Mr. Green began his railway career in 1978 as a marketing analyst at CPR. His career path has taken him from the Maritimes to the Pacific Coast in senior management positions, overseeing operations, marketing, and yield and asset performance. He was appointed president in 2005 and chief executive officer in 2006. Mr. Green also is president and chief executive officer of Soo Line Railroad, a CPR subsidiary in the U.S. Midwest and Delaware, and of Hudson Railway, a CPR subsidiary in the U.S. Northeast.
Sokat Haikhs was named president of Mediterranean Shipping Co.'s Canada division in August 2008. MSC was founded in 1970 as a small conventional ship operator and has since grown to become the second-largest global shipping line. In recent years, MSC has expanded its fleet internally through organic growth rather than through acquisitions or mergers.
