June rail cargo volume rose

Jul 30, 2009 Logistics

China recorded a slight growth of 1.1 per cent in its railway cargo movement in June over May, about the same level in June 2008, Xinhua reported.

According to Ding Junfa, chief consultant for China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing, the growth is a reflection of rise in the demand for large quantity bulk cargoes like coal which is a sign the industry is recovering with increased consumption of such cargoes.

Mr Ding said the logistics industry including railway transportation has been recovering from the bottom since March, but the impact of shrunk export on the industry is still to last for a period.

Mr Ding pointed out that the western region is undergoing a faster growth than the eastern region because of more infrastructure projects launched there.
