Budapest public transport company (BKV) is going to sell the old USSR made metro trainsets, which are to be replaced with the new Alstom units.
BKV wants to sell 56 cars. In 2003 BKV modernised 45 of the old cars, made in 1970s. The first cars arrived to Budapest in January 2009. Since May they were tested. They were assembled in Alstom's Polish plant in Chorzów.
According to Railway Market - CEE Review, the contract with Alstom was signed in 2006. 22 trains will operate on the line 2, and 37 on the line 4, currently under construction.
