Notification of possible strike

Mar 19, 2008 Logistics

Four unions representing cockpit crew, ground staff and some cabin attendants may hold a one-day strike on Wednesday March 19, 2008 that may affect some JAL domestic services.

No international flights would be affected by the strike and would operate as normal.

However, there may be some disruption to JAL's domestic schedule with 16 (or 2.6%) of domestic flights cancelled, out of the usual daily total of 624 flights.

On average JAL Group airlines carry on their domestic routes around 120,500 passengers on a daily basis. 2,000 passengers could be affected by the cancellations.

The four unions are in negotiations with the JAL Group management discussing a variety of issues including their basic salary.

The four unions involved are as follows: JAL Flight Crew Union (1,100 members), JAL Labor Union (100 members), JAL Japan Labor Union (700 members) as well as the JAL Japan Pilots Union (600 members).
