Danish municipalities to introduce special environmental zones

May 31, 2009 Logistics

Danish haulage companies face growing costs in preparation for the stricter environmental standards that are being introduced July 1, 2010 when Danish municipalities introduce special environmental zones. The zones require that all trucks meet the Euro4 or Euro5 environmental standard. An estimated 40,000 Danish trucks currently don't. Their conversion is estimated to cost DKK 2bn (EUR 268.56mn USD 376.20mn), all the while foreign haulage firms are exempt from these requirements. Danish haulier association International Transport Danmark (ITD) calls for a harmonisation of environmental standards for the haulage industry across the EU, Logistics Finland reported.
