This opening session will discuss the mega-trends and sensitivity factors or tipping points which impact port diversions, port selections, discretionary freight routing and intermodal transportation services to provide you with the elements you need to understand how and why goods movement, site selection, and logistics issue are key to the success of an industrial real estate development.

In 2008, a growing shift toward the East Coast was witnessed, with the emergence of the deep water port at Norfolk and strong import volumes reported in Savannah. Will this trend continue? What is impacting these shifts and how will the West Coast ports react? Panel members will discuss the role of port capacity, throughput, export volumes and discretionary freight flow and how these marine terminals manage capacity growth, labor, dwell times and the zone or port coverage in distribution and logistics.
