In St. Petersburg, Russia, during 2-4 October 2012 the 11-th TRANSTEC 2012 International transport Exhibition and the International ports and shipping conference will take place.

In 2008 and 2010 Exhibitions and Conferences “Future of Russian ports” were organized by decision and with the support of ASOP. The Events welcomed the high-level speakers and delegates from the International Association of Ports and Harbors-IAPH, the European Sea Port Organization-ESPO, ILO UN Port Sector and the Shanghai International Port Group, Port of Rotterdam, as well as delegates and exhibitors from Russia, Ukraine, Baltic States, Holland, Finland, Germany, Poland, Luxemburg, Denmark, UK and China among many others. From domestic side the events have been strongly supported by the Maritime Collegium of the Government of RF, Ministry of transport of RF, State Federal Agency for sea and river transport of RF, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Union of Russian ship owners, Association of Shipping Companies, Association of ports and ship owners of inland waterways transport, Government and Maritime Council of St. Petersburg, Coordination Council for Trans- Siberian transportation, Russian railways, Federal State Customs Service, “Rosmorport” FSUE, Executive Committee of the coordination transport Council of the Ministers of Transport of CIS and Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine.

Russian ports have continuously been the key factor for the economic and foreign trade development of the country during the last 20 years.
The Russian ports form the basic element which connects sea, inland waterways transportation, short-sea shipping and which influences directly the railway, road and air transportation of Russia. The exhibition and conference will also concentrate on the topics of port and shipping development, included to the State Federal Program “ Development of transport system of RF (2010-2015)” of the Ministry of Transport of RF, “ Strategy of the development of port infrastructure of RF” by “Rosmorport”, which include issues of the competitiveness, improvement of investment climate ecology protection issues and advanced port equipment development in Russian ports on the basis of the innovation approach and transfer of modern International technologies. St. Petersburg as a Maritime Capital of RF is a natural place for such events as one of the biggest maritime and transport-logistic center, which will receive new development on the basis of operation of the Coordination Council for the development of transport system of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region, created recently by the Government of RF and leaded by the Minister of Transport of RF
In accordance with the opinion expressed by the Secretary General of IAPH during his participation jointly with ASOP at “TRANSTEC” Exhibition, it is evident that Russia’s economy is obviously strong for the future although it may have a number of problems to overcome like any other country. It was pointed out that Russia cannot grow and develop by itself in the future but, on the basis of its great geographical advantages  , Russia has good opportunities.  Since 2010, TRANSTEC” Organizers have become associated members of IAPH .

For Russia it is very important to construct a highly developed port industry to benefit from the country’s neighboring position with China, India, Hong Kong, US and the EU as matured economies.

On this basis the perspectives for the TRANSTEC Exhibitions and Conferences have been studied by ASOP and its special Committees and experts. The ASOP Committee responsible for investment programs for the development of port infrastructure in its session in Moscow has recommended the conversion of the “TRANSTEC” Exhibitions and Conferences into a global platform. This platform will provide the foundation for the promotion of cooperation with national and international state administrations, ports, ship owners, consumers of port services, port equipment producers, investors and structures of other modes of transport to develop port and adjacent transport infrastructure and superstructure.

According to the  results and decision of the participants of “TRANSTEC-2010” exhibition and Second conference “ Future of Russian Ports”  next “TRANSTEC-2012” exhibition will become a platform for the wider meeting under the title “ International ports and shipping conference”
