Iron ore demand in the global market is growing at steady pace thanks to the economic prosperity of China and India as well as the rebounding demand for steel in Europe, America and Japan. In 2009, China has imported more than 100 million tons of coal, and the figure is expected to reach 200 million in a few years. Meanwhile, the coal import of India in 2009 has amounted to roughly 70 million tons, and will likely go up to 81 million in 2012. Furthermore, China’s curtailing production of rapeseed is pushing up the country’s import of soybean.

In early 2009, Baltic Dry Index (BDI) was as low as 772, and now it is wavering between 3,000 and 4,000. Will it stay on the upward track? In 2010, many dry bulk carriers will be built and delivered. How will they influence the shipping capacity? How about the China factor in global dry bulk shipping? Besides, there are other influencers for the profitability of shipping companies, e.g. financing for ships, changes in bunker oil, and integration of services at the port.

Based on its strong network and database in shipping industry, CBI is presenting the 2nd International Dry Bulk Shipping Industry Summit. Elites from East Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, Middle East, South America, etc. will convene at this conference, sharing their perspectives about the development of dry bulk shipping and envisaging the prospect of the global market in 2010.
