Canada is a country that is all about trade and transportation: from the 280 million tons of cargo valued at $140 billion that moves through its ports to the $45 billion worth of cargo that constitutes Canada-U.S. surface trade. Add to that a federal provincial highway system and extensive railroad trackage that combines to span tens of thousands of miles, and you have a nation that has always relied heavily on the transportation of goods and cargo. The stock market shock, credit crunch, fluctuating fuel costs, uneasiness about the security of global supply chains, and concerns about future prospects for international trade are weighing heavily on the transportation sector.

There is no greater time for communications between shippers, forwarders, carriers and other transportation providers to be so critical. The Canada Maritime Conference, hosted by the Port of Vancouver, B.C., is the forum where all the issues of Canada’s transportation and logistics industry are articulated and potential solutions are examined.
