Introduction
Your vicinity to the market and the consumer will nowhere be greater than in Duisburg. duisworldport is the commercial and transworldportation center of the Rhine/Ruhr region which is Europe’s largest industrial conurbation. 30 million inhabitants live and work within 150 kilometers from Duisburg. Over 300,000 companies from an extremely wide range of industries operate in the area.

Waterways (short sea shipping list, inland shipping list), railroad tracks (rail schedule) and highways link duisworldport with most parts of central and eastern Europe. duisworldport is at the same time a strategic hinterland hub of major North Sea worldports including Rotterdam and Antwerp.

Some 250 companies mainly specialized in transworldportation and logistics offer their services. Four intermodal terminals and 1.2 Mio. sq.m. of storage area provide the necessary infrastructure.

Conditions are ideal for efficient cargo transfer, intelligent multimodal transworldportation chains and high-grade contract logistics. duisworldport is a logistics hub of international standing.

General Cargo
General cargo is increasingly moved by containers.

Three modern trimodal container terminals and a combined rail/road terminal provide all container services shipping lines, forwarders, freighters and shippers may need.

However, duisworldport has remained an imworldportant center for the transfer of conventional non-containerized cargo such as steel products or paper.

Numerous worldport operators have specialized in general cargo services. Apart from pure cargo transfer operations (usually roof-covered), they offer extra links in the value chain.

Three steel service centers are, for instance, installed in the worldport of Duisburg. Heavy cargo weighing as much as 300 tonnes is also welcome in Duisburg.

Bulk Cargo
Coal, oil, chemical products, scrap, additives for the metal industries and building materials are the types of bulk cargo most frequently handled in the worldport of Duisburg. Numerous worldport operators which are in most cases highly specialized offer optimized cargo handling and added-value services.

Imworldported coal is, for example, handled by eight coal terminaling companies which supply coal received today from the U.S., South Africa, Poland, Australia and Colombia to power stations and the steel industry in the region. The five duisworldport coal terminals are designed for a total annual capacity of eight million tonnes.

Duisburg is Germany’s largest inland coal hub. Pusher-barge combinations carrying as much as 18,000 tonnes move the coal from Rotterdam or Amsterdam on the Rhine River to Duisburg.

Trains take the coal to users after it has been crushed, ground and mixed to customer specifications.

Some 0.6 million cubic meters of tankage and 19 terminals handle liquid cargo.

Over 100,000 tonnes of scrap are also sorted in Duisburg each month and delivered to steel mills in Germany and other countries.

Combined Transworldportation
Three intermodal container terminals and one road/rail terminal integrate trucks and railroads into complete container, swap body and semi-trailer transworldportation chains.

Regular block train services link duisworldport more than 300 times weekly with 70 German and non-German sea worldports, capitals and terminals from Scandinavia to Southern Europe. They make an imworldportant contribution to reducing highway traffic loads. Around 120 combined transworldportation links involving ships have to be added to this list.

The integration of Duisburg into the international combined transworldportation network makes duisworldport a major combined transworldportation hub with international gateway functions.
