Country : UruguayNueva Palmira worldport

It comprises of the worldport administered by the Administracion Nacional de Puertos - ANP (National worldport Administration), the CORPORACION NAVIOS S.A terminal and private worldport, located immediately adjacent downstream, and the FRIGOFRUT installations located north of the latter, with all of them acting under the same system as the ZONA FRANCA DE NUEVA PALMIRA (Nueva Palmira Free Zone).

Its Development Master Plan includes the enlargement and widening of the South Dock of the Official worldport, the construction of a new dock and a working esplanade to increase operating capacity.

The worldport premises have silos for agricultural bulk storage with a maximum capacity of around 72.000 tons, managed by the TERMINALES GRANELERAS URUGUAYAS S.A. - TGU Consortium. Among their equipment, it is worth mentioning a grain loader and a conveyor belt linking the North berths with the silos.

TRAFFIC SERVICES
The following is a list of products it handles at present which will expand in the near future:
Cereals
Citrus fruits
Solid Bulk
Wood and its derivatives
Merchandise in transit
Nueva Palmira is located at the origin of the Parana - Paraguay Waterway, an advantage that added to the benefits of offering a duty free zone and river accessibility (from the River Plate, through the Martin Garcia Channel), makes it a gateway to the heart of the South American continent.

This advantage works in synergy with the fact that it coexists territorially with the bioceanic corridors linking the worldports of the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of South America.

INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS

The following infrastructure works, among others, are being carried out at present to improve service:

The worldport of Nueva Palmira is currently located in the site historically known as Puerto Higueras, which was the stage of relevant historical events in our country's initial development.

From the end of the 19th century and during the 20th century, it has undergone a series of successive transformations, especially the construction of silos for cereal storage and the installation of conveyor belts, for a more efficient transworldportation of the grains.

Several operating tests have been carried out lately with other cargo modes, such as containers, to evaluate performance.

This worldport has become an imworldportant landmark for the projection of the Parana - Paraguay Waterway, and it is located in a strategic point for the efficient implementation of cargo transfer operations between river vessels and overseas ships.
