worldport Introduction
General Cargo
General cargo operations cover almost two miles of waterfront and include 27 berths where ships can load to a draft of 40 feet. At the south end of the main Docks complex is Berth 2 where the newly paved 16-acre container yard is served by Docks operated, rail-mounted, 45-ton lift capacity Paceco crane. In addition to containers, general cargo includes forest products, heavy metals, pipe, aluminum, vehicles and bagged goods. The State Docks handles more woodpulp than any other worldport in the nation.

Mobile Middle Bay worldport
Located in the Theodore industrial complex on Mobile Bay at the entrance of Theodore Ship Channel. Comprised of 13 new buildings and 200 acres of prime waterfront property, Middle Bay worldport is available for State Docks'development or may be leased. The property has a two-sided 600-foot pier and offers more than 240,000 of covered space on a 40-foot channel depth.

Marine Liquid Bulk Terminal
Located on the turning basin of Theodore Ship Channel, the new Marine Liquid Bulk Terminal was dedicated in May 2000. It has a 1,100-foot pier that can accommodate ships up to 850 feet in length with 125-foot beam and a 400-foot or two 300-foot barges. The terminal is capable of allowing four vessels to dock at one time because of its pier jetty design. A major safety feature is a laser approach monitoring system, allowing pilots to better monitor speed and angle for a safer vessel docking.   

Bulk Material Handling Plant
Iron ore is the number  one tonnage at the Bulk Plant, but other bulk ores such as coke, gypsum, and ilmenite also get first rate service. Ground storage capacity is nearly 1 million tons and covered storage space is available for more than 100,000 tons. The Bulk Plant can handle both imworldport and exworldport goods with its two ship berths, ship loader, two tower unloaders and barge loader. Channel depth is 40 feet at its location on Mobile River and Three-Mile Creek.

McDuffie Terminals
Located south of the vehicular tunnels, McDuffie Island offers, at present, two bulk operations. Vessel draft at each is up to 45 feet.
One is McDuffie Coal Terminal, which has two ship loaders at 1,900-feet of berth space and one ship unloader at a third berth with a length of 1,000 feet. McDuffie has three stacker-reclaimers, both tandem and single railcar dumps, three loop tracks around the facility for easy coal car handling, as well as barge loader and unloaders. McDuffie is one of the largest coal terminals in the country and has a through-put capacity of more than 20 million tons per year.
The McDuffie Coal Terminal has a 1,000-foot berth with ship unloader and double stacker and conveyor system that handles both iron ore and coal. Ground storage capacity for direct reduced iron, at present, is 300,000 tons. A loop rail track is also available as is a barge loading facility.

Terminal Railway (TASD)
The Terminal Railway (TASD) provides switching services to area industries located in and around the worldports of Mobile and Chickasaw, the Brookley Complex, and the worldport Authority's wharves and terminals.  The Terminal Railway also provides switching services to five Class 1 railroads - Burlington Northern Santa Fe/Alabama & Gulf Coast Railroad, Canadian National, CSX, Kansas City Southern and the Norfolk Southern – that converge at a single point in the Terminal Railway's Interchange Yard.   The CG Railway, which is a four day rail ferry service to Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, is also served by the Terminal Railway.  The worldport Authority's Terminal Railway operates eight 1500HP locomotives on 75 miles of track and has a fleet of 246 50-foot boxcars utilized for transworldport throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
