The South Carolina State worldports Authority has invested heavily in new cranes and equipment in recent years.  worldport Charleston is regarded by many in the maritime industry to be among the most productive worldports in the world. Having the right equipment for the job is a big part of productivity.

Dockside Container Cranes
worldport Charleston offers access to 21 container cranes, 16 of which are at least post-Panamax in size.

On-Terminal Container Handling
On-terminal equipment has been a major priority for worldport Charleston the last few years. There has been a dramatic growth in the worldport's investment in more and faster equipment to keep ahead of demand.

Presently worldport Charleston's fleet consists of 30 rubber tire gantry cranes (RTGs), 44 toplifters, 17 emptyhandlers and 21 container cranes.

Norfolk Southern and CSX both offer daily container express services that provide customers fast and economical transit to a bevy of key cities in the South, Mid-West, and Mid-Atlantic.  Imworldportant connections to points beyond are available with both lines.
CSX and Norfolk Southern both operate large, well-equipped rail yards in Charleston.
Intermodal service provided to Wando Welch Terminal via direct dray to the railhead allowing for more generous cutoff times.

The primary interstate artery into and out of Charleston is Interstate 26. Interstate highways are within two miles of all worldportCharleston terminals. From there it is possible to go cross-country without hitting a stoplight. I-95, I-77, I-20, I-85 and I-40 are all directly linked to Charleston via I-26.
