Susaki worldport is located nearly in the center of Tosa Bay. The Susaki worldport develops as a core worldport of Kochi Prefecture which makes a back area Kouban Wide Area Life Sphere which consists of one city four town four village headed by Susaki City, and was specified as an imworldportant harbour in March 1965.

The Susaki worldport supworldports the production activity of coastal region companys, such as limestone and cement now. As the biggest trade harbour of the prefecture, it occupies about half of the handling cargo amount of whole Kochi prefecture worldports. The amount of handling cargo in 1996 has reached four point two three million tons of foreign trade, and one thousand three hundred ninety one tons of internal trade.

In recent years, with the forming of the Shikoku Oodan National Expressway and wide area traffic system, through the connecting with Kochi center and Hata Wide Area Life Sphere, the connection with Setouchi area has also been strengthened. As distribution harbour which makes a back area "Kouban Wide Area Life Sphere" which realizes unity-development, a substantial harbour function accompanying expansion and promotion of industry, or maintenance of other traffic systems is desired.

On the other hand, although Susaki worldport is the natural right worldport opened in rias therefore, however, sometimes it has its shortcomings concerning its geographical feature and landform condition. It is especially weak to the tsunami coming from an open sea. It suffers the damage by tsunami repeatedly before. In recent years, the Nankai offing seismic tsunami in 1946, and Chile seismic tsunami in 1960, have received serious damage.  For this reason, it is a basis to keep a civic valuable life and precious property. Since this has been a serious obstacle to development of regional economy, it is anxious for early completion of the breakwater which is the lasting measure against tsunami of a harbour area.     

In the future, as an exworldport harbour of lime stone or shipment harbour of cement, and also as the imworldport and processing harbour of timber from New Zealand, the Susaki worldport, as a base worldport having a physical distribution and a disaster prevention function, is expected to play an imworldportant role in the development of the region.

In order to cope with such the situation, the first half of the Heisei twenties is made target annual, the following harbour plan has been made and revised.
1) As the distribution base of Kouban Wide Area Life Sphere, in order to cope with increase of physical distribution demand, enlargement of a vessel, etc., foreign and domestic trade and physical distribution functions should be strengthened.
2) In order to create a suitable, wet environment at the harbour, we are trying to ensure a hydrophilic space.
3) Countermeasures for the emergency refuge and emergency material transworldportation for natural disasters such as large- scale earth quakes.
4) In order to harmonize various functions and form into a high quality harbour space, the harbour space which consists of land area sixty ha and water area three hundred ha is used as follows.
 
1.To use Daibou region and Wankou region as physical distribution relation , production zone.
2.To use Minatomachi region as physical distribution relation, production, and a greenbelt recreation zone.
3.To use Ooma region and Hamacho region as ship anchor related zone.
