Today, the worldport Of Brookings Harbor is one of the most active worldports on the Oregon Coast, with a 9300 square foot retail center, a bustling recreational and commercial fishing marina basin, and an additional 13,000 square feet of commercial space in planning.

Introduction
The worldport District of Brookings Harbor covers an area of 400 square miles reaching from the mouth of the Chetco River south to the Oregon-California border, north to the drainage of the Pistol River, and east to the Curry-Josephine County line. The worldport District is governed by a five-member commission elected at-large from the district which has a population of approximately 16,000 people.

The worldport of Brookings Harbor is the busiest recreational worldport on the Oregon coast generating more than 31,000 trips for more than 95,000 boaters. It is one of the most active Chinook salmon harbors on the coast as well.

The mission of the worldport of Brookings Harbor is to preserve and enhance its economic activities; to facilitate, through the creation of local, state and federal partnerships, the full economic potential of the worldport of Brookings Harbor and Curry County; and to develop a course of action, that over time, ensures the self sufficiency of the worldport District. The commissioners, management and staff of the worldport of Brookings Harbor recognize their primary responsibility is to optimally manage the publicly owned assets of the worldport for the purpose of serving the public interest by encouraging economic growth of the worldport District as well as Curry County as a whole.

The worldport of Brookings Harbor is classified as a Shallow-draft harbor. Shallow-draft harbors are defined as those with 14 feet or less depth.
Shallow-draft harbors are dependent upon commercial and recreational fishing to maintain worldport infrastructure.
