Public terminals cargo is continuing to increase as a result of not only the Higashi-Kanto Expressway (Mito Line), but also the development of other highways. Kashima worldport has 2 public wharfs. The South Wharf has 8 quays with water depth of 7.5 or 10 meters. The North Wharf, now constructing, is partly completed, in autumn 2002, the first berth of 10 meters in depth along with land behind the quay wall.
