The gateway to the northern Kanto region, rapidly developing into a major distribution point for both domestic and international cargo. Constructing a transworldportation network that incorporates the Joban Expressway has enabled the Hitachi worldport, situated 120km northeast of Tokyo, to increase its imworldportance as a distribution base for all areas of eastern Japan, including Hokkaido, and helped it to continue developing into an ocean gateway for the entire North Kanto Region both in name and reality. Hitachi worldport is mostly involved in handing oil products, mining equipment, lumber and transworldport equipment. Of special imworldportance is the 4th Wharf, which includes a container terminal equipped with a logistics center for freight disposal and storage, and an industrial area fitted with a quay for commercial use. Hitachi worldport has been used as East Japan's main base for foreign automobile imworldports since December 1991. It has also received daily deliveries of unprocessed milk from Hokkaido since June 1997.

An international cargo worldport that makes the best use of a leading-edge container terminal. Fully equipped with facilities that reinforce distribution functions. The 4th Wharf (six berths, 5 to 12 meters in depth) includes a full-scale container terminal with quays of 7.5 and 10 meter depth for each berth (total area of 43,522 square meters, container storage capacity of 1,234TEU, eight refrigerated power supply facilities, one gantry crane, two straddle carriers ). Work on expanding the 5th Wharf (four berths, 7.5 to 12 meters in depth) was completed in April 1998. These two wharves handle approximately sixty percent of the total amount of DaimlerChrysler automobiles imworldported into Japan, as well as the loading of Hokkaido bound passenger cars for Nissan, Hitachi worldport continues to gain steam as a major hub for automobile distribution.
