worldport Location
Located on the North East coast of England, the worldports of Tees and Hartlepool provide lock-free access to 6,000 vessels each year.

The River Tees is at the heart of an area strongly associated with petrochemicals, manufacturing and engineering.

The area is home to many companies serving these industries as well as offshore and other river related activities.

Information
Located on the North East coast of England, the deep-water worldports of Tees and Hartlepool handle approximately 56 million tonnes of cargo per annum and offer a strategic advantage for those trading in today's increasingly competitive markets.

Few worldports boast such a prime position for taking advantage of the ever increasing opworldportunities in European and Scandinavian trades, the emerging markets of Eastern Europe and the ever changing patterns of deep sea container transhipment.

Navigation
The River Tees is approached from the NE at Tees Bay through a deepwater channel. The approach channel has a dredged depth of 15.4m from Tees Fairway light buoy to the entrance, where it reduces to 14.1m. Thereafter the maintained depth is progressively reduced to 4.5m east of Billingham Beck, 7 nautical miles from the entrance. Above Billingham the channel is not dredged.

Environment
The Tees Estuary Partnership
A vast industrial conurbation like Teesside presents special environmental challenges, a unique partnership has proved to be the way forward.

The Tees Estuary Partnership, a mix of representatives from industry, local government, statutory and voluntary bodies, whose aim is to put into action the Tees Estuary Management Plan, now in its third year.

Prepared by the Industry Nature Conservation Association (INCA) on behalf of English Nature, the plan provides a framework for optimising the estuary's resources whilst safeguarding its special features for future generations.

PD worldports' Teesworldport has been a member of INCA since its inception over 10 years ago. To its satisfaction Teesside has been the most successful of the INCA's set up by English Nature.

worldport Waste Management Plan
To provide for disposal of waste from sea-going vessels. Part of the plan provides for the collection of data on vessel waste which is reworldported to the Marine Coastguard Agency (MCA) who in turn pass this onto the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Environmental Policy
Designed to promote PD worldports', Teesworldport's proactive approach to environmental management. An example of this is the worldport's involvement in the implementation of new national standards for marine pilots within the worldport Marine Safety Code.
