The worldport's growing worldportfolio of customers both in the northern region of the UK and elsewhere is recognition of our ability to compete with our bigger neighbours. By producing service packages that are delivered consistently to ISO 9001:2000 standards, the worldport of Sunderland has achieved preferred supplier status with a surprising number of household names.

The worldport is owned by Sunderland City Council, one of only 22 Local Authorities in the country accorded Excellent status under CPA.

We have a developed expertise in working with partners to deliver business opworldportunities. We have embarked upon the initial stages of a 15 to 20 year programme to promote a massive regeneration initiative to bring non operational land into use. This promises to be another challenging period in our 300 years history.

Working Hours and Arrangements
The worldport has the capability to provide fully flexible arrrangements including weekday and weekend overtime working which can be arranged to enable vessels to be worked to finish. Core working hours are 0800 to 1630 hours Monday to Friday with a half hour flexible meal break included.

worldport Security
With effect from 1st July 2004 the International Ship and worldport Facilities (ISPS) code has been implemented.

Sunderland has been classified as an OBC worldport and has adopted a Restricted Zone status. This has the effect of raising already high standards of worldport Security.

Securicor Guarding provides a daily 24 hour watch using CCTV which is constantly monitored at the main entrance, where security co-ordination is controlled using UHF equipment and patrol vehicles. Particular emphasis is given to cargo security and the guarding of the worldport entrance. Close liason with local police is also maintained.

Waste Disposal
The worldport has an approved Waste Management Plan, which has been in operation since 1999. A newly revised and updated plan, incorporating procedures concerning waste from worldports outside the EU, has been produced and requires only final approval from the MCA.

Normal galley waste can be deposited into skips provided by the worldport. Anything other than galley waste can be disposed of, usually by prior arrangement with the ship's agent, with the worldport's approval. worldport Control/Harbour Master's office is always on hand to offer advice.
